Swallow Roots
23rd Mai – 30th June 2001
Contribution to the “CUDI/Centre for Urbanitet, Dialog og Information“ project
Vollsmose, Odense, Denmark,

This project involved digging a cave below a birch tree in a nondescript green space in Vollsmose, a housing development built in the seventies on the outskirts of Odense.
Furnished with steps, the cave revealed to visitors a part of the tree that usually remains hidden from sight, providing a view of underground plant life in a district mainly consisting of sealed surfaces. A sign with the biography of an Iraqi Kurd was set up next to the tree, and as such stood for the immigrants and exiles from 78 nations attempting to put down new roots in
Vollsmose.
