Medium St. Pauli
7th June - 15th November 1995
Project without institutional involvement
Hamburg St.Pauli, Germany

The “Medium St. Pauli“ project took place in nine bars in the red-light district of St. Pauli, Hamburg. It involved leaving boxes of drawing material in the bars, and encouraging the guests to pin up messages or drawings on a notice board set up by the artist. The support of the landlords played an important role, as they were required to collect all the material and keep it for visitors to look at during the five months of the project. For his part, Gislason visited the bars regularly, keeping them provided with drawing material. Towards the end of the five months, Gislason sent out printed flyers inviting members of the Hamburg art scene to visit our of the bars with him to view the results on the last two days of the project. A Kurdish bar by the name of Pamukkale participated in the project, but was closed on October 3, 1995, for olitical reasons.
