Modelling out at Sea
19th July – 23rd August 1997
Project for Galerie NEMO
Eckernförde, Germany

The “Modelling out at Sea“ project took place in the summer of 1997 on the beach at Eckernförde. It involved anchoring a pontoon about 100 metres out in the sea, opposite the section of shore where Galerie NEMO (which organised the project) is located. The pontoon had a large sign with the words “Modelling out at sea“ on it, encouraging beach-goers to swim out to the pontoon, where they discovered clay waiting to be formed into objects. Many people obliged, and the results were fetched once a day and placed on display in the gallery. The object of the project was to introduce an element of culture into a setting mainly characterised by leisure, sun, movement, wind, water and enjoyment.
