'Strukturwandel' consisted of several mutually referential parts: first, Olafur Gislason conducted interviews with shrimp fishermen, captains of deep-sea fishing boats, a fish dealer and the heads of the largest fishing companies. The texts, combined into a monologue, were spoken by an actor. The monologue could be heard on a stage construction developed by Gislason on a North Sea quay. The public could enter the outer area of the structure. Through four windows on various levels, the visitors could watch a woman acrobat performing inside the space. The Cuxhaven Kunstverein showed drawings and watercolours- varied, at times associative depictions of the precarious situation of Cuxhaven's fishing industry. During his local research, Gislason also discovered the figure of a seaman in the Cuxhaven Fishery Museum, which he transferred to the Kunstverein for the duration of the exhibition. The Fishery Museum showed a video documenting the figure's excursion to the Kunstverein. |
