Direct Redesign
16th May – 6th September 1998
Project in Gothenburg city centre as part of the “Places in Gothenburg“ exhibition
Sweden, 16 May – 6 September, 1998.

In this project, Gislason invited eight Gothenburg residents to make suggestions for changes in the area around Gustav Adolfs Torg, an old square at the heart of the Swedish city. He sat down with the participants to examine their suggestions and finetune them, or in some cases to draw up completely new ones. The realisation of some of the proposals was organised by the Gothenburg Culture Department. He then had a wooden hut erected in the city centre to draw attention to the project, whereby posters showing realised proposals were put up on the outer walls. The hut was manned by art students for four hours a day, enabling people to find out which suggestions had either been made or realised, and to make new ones. These were passed on by the students to the authorities.
