Vision und Erbe/ Vision and legacy
24th June – 10th July 2005
Project for the exhibition "inside - outside"
Schloss Plüschow, Mecklenburgisches Künstlerhaus

Since 1983, the artist Udo Rathke has created a centre for art and artists at Schloss Plüschow, a manor house situated in a village in Mecklenburg. In his drawings exhibited at Schloss Plüschow under the title 'Vision und Erbe', Olafur Gislason explores the question of how the people of Plüschow view the art shown there. Part of the work consists of a radio play that Gislason compiled from interviews he conducted with two of the Schloss's neighbours. The radio play was presented at the compost heap behind the old outbuilding adjacent to the entrance to the manor house. Planted with pumpkins for the installation, the compost heap, in which the villagers' refuse mingles with that of the artists in residence at the Schloss, allegorised the fruitful association between artistic site and village.
